Why commuters use it

The timetable says one thing. The platform says another.

Commute Check puts the Metrorail schedule and what commuters are reporting side by side, so you can decide when to leave, not just when the train should come.

Reports from people on the platform

Commuters flag delays, cancellations and crowding as they happen. Check the line before you leave home, and add a report when you see something.

Timetables that work offline

Schedules live on your phone, so they still open when reception drops on the platform.

Saved routes and reminders

Save your usual trip once and get a reminder before your train.

Every station has its own link

Station and route pages show the next scheduled trains in any browser. Send one to a friend on WhatsApp and it opens straight in the app if they have it.

In your language

The whole app is available in three languages.

  • HelloEnglish
  • MoloisiXhosa

Questions

Good to know

What Commute Check does, what it doesn't, and where the information comes from.

Is Commute Check free?

Yes. Commute Check is free on Android and iPhone, and timetables, station pages, saved routes and commuter reports are free for everyone. An optional Commute Check Plus upgrade adds colour themes and a supporter badge.

Does Commute Check show live train locations?

No. Commute Check shows scheduled Metrorail timetable times next to reports from other commuters about delays, cancellations and crowding. Reports are labelled separately so you can tell the timetable apart from what people are seeing on the platform.

Which Cape Town train lines and stations are covered?

All 69 stations on the Southern Line (Cape Town to Simon's Town) and the Northern Line, including services to Bellville, Stellenbosch, Strand, Paarl, Wellington and the Century City to Monte Vista branch. Central Line and Cape Flats Line stations are not included at the moment.

Does the app work without mobile data?

Yes. Timetables are stored on your phone, so schedules and saved routes still open when station reception drops. Reports you make offline are sent when you reconnect. You need a connection to see the latest reports from other commuters.

Is Commute Check the official Metrorail or PRASA app?

No. Commute Check is an independent app for Cape Town commuters and is not affiliated with PRASA or Metrorail. Check official announcements for major service changes.

Which languages does Commute Check support?

The app is available in English, isiXhosa and Sesotho.
